What is a Pulmonary Sequestration?

A pulmonary sequestration, also known as a bronchopulmonary sequestration or a cystic lung lesion, is a medical condition where a piece of tissue that develops into lung tissue is not attached to the pulmonary blood supply and does not communicate with the other lung tissue. Often it gets its blood supply from the thoracic aorta. Communication is a medical phrase indicating that it is not connected to the standard bronchial airways and that it performs no function in respiration.

I See the Light

Well, I am about 3 weeks from my next doctor's appointment; the one that I believe will release me to go back to work. Mentally I am ready to go back to work because I miss seeing my co-workers and socializing with them. But, physically I feel nervous. I know that it will be an adjustment and I feel like it will take me awhile to get back to my old self. I am also excited because I am treating it as a new start to my life.

Emotionally I feel depressed sometimes. I think it is partially because I don't have my daily routine and accomplishments like I had. Some days I feel happy and beautiful and other days (like today) I just want to cry because I feel useless. I find myself getting angry with my husband when he wants to go out with his friends. I normally would never get upset. But, I think it has to do with me being jealous that he has a life and I don't. I miss feeling needed, being recognized, saying hello to people in the hall, etc.

Also, I started to notice that my skin was breaking out a lot. I normally have pretty good skin. So, I was doing some reading and I realized that I haven't been sitting out in the sun at all, and read that lack of sun (vitamin D) can cause acne. So, today I made sure to sit outside for awhile each day and I think I am starting to get my skin back.

  1. I searched pulmonary sequestration on FB and found myself here. I to was born with a PS of my lower left lung. I also was misdignosed my whole life up till 2 years ago. After reading your blog I to have lived with all you have been through your self. You are the 1st person I have found to have been born with PS and talked about it. On aug 23rd of 2010 I had surgery to remove my Lower Left lung. I still have a daily struggle from bronchiectasis in other parts of my lung that surgery did not get to. I am so happy to find some one who can relate. Pray all is well.

  2. I also searched Pulmonary Sequestration on FB and found this blog. My son was diagnosed at my 20 week ultrasound. He is now 8 months and we are getting ready for a CT scan next week and surgery will follow in April. Has anyone been told if this is genetic or not? I have not found a clear answer however our surgeon as not found any evidence to suggest that it is.

  3. Thank you for this blog! I was getting tired of only having articles from PubMed to read! I was really needing to read an adult patient's perspective, and I'm so glad I found it. I was diagnosed with PS about a month ago and have been all over emotionally. I am 43 and I'm so irritated that it has taken this long to be diagnosed -- I've even been hospitalized twice for pneumonia in my life and had a total of four incidences of hemoptysis (coughing up blood). It was only because I was coughing up blood when I showed up at Urgent Care and they decided to do a CT scan. I have my Pulmonary Function Test and an appointment with my pulmonologist (who I absolutely LOVE) on Wednesday and then off to see the surgeon the following week. I think I may even blog about my experience, too, since it was so hard finding others in this situation.

  5. I have also been misdiagnosed. I recognise myself in your stories, I've also been through these stages. There's hardly anything to find on the internet about other people with pulmonary sequestrations. Thank you!!

  6. Although I am late in finding this blog, I too would like to share that I was born with BPS. I too kept looking for adult stories with this same problem, but with little success. I never in my 35 years had any problems with respiratory problems until June of 2011 when I started with severe coughs and chest pains that was misdiagnosed for bronchitis. After x-rays and ct scans I come to find the real cause of my never ending cough. I had my lower left lung removed in December of 2011. I will not lie, it was painful and I was left with a huge scar, but I am thankful to be alive and feeling better than ever.

  7. For years, I have read and seen the advertisements in the mass media about all of the penis enhancement pills and thought that they were all scams or gimmicks. All of the medical sites that I have visited stated that none of the herbal supplements would ever help increase the size of a penis. I got very depressed when I read this, because unfortunately I was not naturally blessed with a penis that was big enough to arouse my sexual partner or past partners. I am a man that is past my sexual primetime and my sexual performance has a lot to be desired. I decided to try Doctoc Akhigbe herbal medicine after all the reading and researching that I have done.I saw a testimony " Joe" about doctror Akhigbe Herbal Medicine Since there is a Money Back Guarantee, I give him a trial what did I have to lose? I couldn't believe the results I was seeing after drinking the Natural  Herbal Medicine  and Herbal Soap to be rubign my penis! he sent to me through DHL courier delivery service . Within about 2 weeks I had a noticeable increase in the girth of my penis. Then after a coupleof aditional week it started to grow in length and I was amazed and very excited.before I finish the drink and the soap my penis had grown an additional two inches. I've had a considerable improvement with my sex life and these pills are certainly worth every penny I spent on them!
